We are a Bronze Unicef Rights Respecting School and are currently working towards the Silver Award. This means that we are explicitly embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in its policy, practice and culture. We also committed to promoting knowledge and understanding of the Convention throughout our school community.
UNICEF, the United Nations International Children’s Fund, is the world’s leading organisation for children. Their work is based upon the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This is a document that ensures the countries signed up to it, of which the UK is one, recognise 43 child rights. The convention outlines that every child, regardless of who they are or where they live, grows up safe, healthy and happy.
Children’s rights play a huge part in the daily life of our school with our children, staff and parents learning about the rights of the child via UNICEF Articles of the Week and we regularly recognise our Right’s Ambassadors in our school celebration assemblies and in our displays around school.
All classes have produced a class charter, and this is displayed in class. The hall has a display dedicated to class charters and UNICEF Rights Respecting Information.
