Rights Respecting School

UNICEF Rights Respecting Award

Timbertree Academy is a SILVER Unicef Rights Respecting School. We are explicitly embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in its policy, practice and culture. We  are promoting knowledge and understanding of the Convention throughout your school community and are beginning to see the positive impact of these actions on children and young people, staff, and on the school’s ethos, practice and environment. Children are beginning to see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness and children’s rights, both locally and globally.

UNICEF, the United Nations International Children’s Fund, is the world’s leading organisation for children. Their work is based upon the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This is a document that ensures the countries signed up to it, of which the UK is one, recognise 43 child rights. The convention outlines that every child, regardless of who they are or where they live, grows up safe, healthy and happy.

Children’s rights play a huge part in the daily life of our school with our children, staff and parents learning about the rights of the child via UNICEF Articles of the Week and we regularly recognise our Right’s Ambassadors in our school celebration assemblies and in our displays around school.
